“The Mountain and the Viper” is nominated for a Hugo Award
The Hugo Awards, which celebrate the best in science fiction and fantasy, have honored Game of Thrones before. Last year, producers picked up a Hugo for their work on “The Rains of Castamere.” The year before that, they scored a Hugo for “Blackwater.” And in 2012, the entire first season of Game of Thrones was given an award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form. The 2015 nominations were announced yesterday. and the show was unsurprisingly again in the running. The entirety of Season 4 isn’t up for consideration, but producers may take home a Hugo for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form, for their work on “The Mountain and the Viper,” written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss, and directed by Alex Graves.
“The Mountain and the Viper” will be going up against Doctor Who (“Listen”), The Flash (“Pilot”), Grimm (“Once We Were Gods”), and Orphan Black (“By Means Which Have Never Yet Been Tried”). If I were the producers, I would make sure to bring the guy who plays The Mountain along to the award ceremony so he can look menacing and glower at the other nominees. That ought to scare off any potential competitors.
