HBO Now Goes Live

Tuesday really does seem to be the day Apple does things. Although there was never an official launch date, with some outlets even reporting that the streaming service would not go live until April 12th itself, it turns out Tuesday is once again the big day. Apple announced that HBO Now is officially live. Even though the launch is clearly timed to take advantage of Game of Thrones, HBO had their other hit show of the moment, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, do the honors.

According to the official press release, HBO Now is available through Apple products (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or directly on Apple TV using an iTunes account) or Optimum Online for a monthly subscription of $14.99. Those who sign up in April will also get a 30-day introductory trial period for free. Customers will have access to the entirely of HBO’s vast programming catalog. Basically, it’s like HBO Go, but it doesn’t come shackled to a bloated cable package.

Currently, Time is reporting that the website will direct people to the iPad store for iPhone and iPad but the app doesn’t appear to be available just yet.
