Maisie Williams Talks Massive Changes For Arya
Maisie Williams has been very busy, of late, hopping from one interview to the next. As with most of her Game of Thrones co-stars, Maisie gives the usual “This season is going to be so exciting” speech that becomes the norm before any season premiere. However, Maisie also comments on the changes that Arya will go through this season, and reveals that they really are different than the ones she experienced in any other season to date.
Talking to Radio Times via The Express, Maisie mentions “massive changes,” and this time she means it.
“When I say there’s a massive change in Game of Thrones, I think it’s the first time I’ve actually meant it. People are going to think, ‘You go through a change every year.’ But this year it’s on a completely different level – it’s so exciting. It sounds so broad, but actually ‘change’ is really, really specific.”
The change that Maisie is referring to is the fact that she will spend Season 5 in Braavos, training to become someone that not even her family would recognize. It really is going to be a massive change. She isn’t exaggerating.
Arya’s story should be one of the more interesting ones to watch this year. In Season 4, Arya and The Hound brought a surprisingly lighthearted and comic touch to an other wise dark and bloody season. Even when the pair brutally dispatched The Mountain’s men at the inn in the season premiere, the Hound still found room to deliver one of the series’ most hilarious and quotable lines:
“I understand that if any more words come pouring out your c**t mouth, I’m gonna have to eat every f**king chicken in this room.”
Not only that, but when Arya and The Hound find out that her Aunt Lysa is dead, she bursts out laughing , which made viewers like myself laugh hysterically. That may have been one of my favorite moments of last season.
Back to Arya’s arc in Season 5. We’ve already seen her knock on the door to the House of Black and White, which means she will be attempting to get the Kindly Man to accept and train her. If Arya’s story on the show even remotely follows that of the book, then Maisie Williams may once again steal the spotlight. Although, after last season, does Maisie taking center stage in the spotlight really count as her stealing it?
