Game of Thrones hilarity roundup: Gay of Thrones, Danny McBride, and SNL
Making funny Game of Thrones videos has been a major growth industry of late, what with George R.R. Martin making a cameo appearance in Conan O’Brien’s ‘Lil Thrones video,’ Key & Peele reenacting the series in typically high-energy fashion, forecasting the inevitable Game of Thrones reboot, and more. Since then, the laughs have continued to roll, although your mileage may vary.
Funny or Die has always featured Game of Thrones content, and one of its latest efforts involves cutting comedian Danny McBride (This is the End, Tropic Thunder) into footage from the show, leaning heavily on the trailers for Season 5. There are penis jokes and there are falling down jokes. There vulgar jokes and there are off-color jokes and there are crude jokes. There’s also the sight of McBride, armed with a sword, tapping the blade of his opponent like it’s a sleeping dog that might wake up and bit him, which is funny.
Next, we’ve got the latest episode in Funny or Die’s Gay of Thrones series, which George R.R. Martin stopped by last season. In this series, real-life hairdresser Jonathan Van Ness breaks down each episode in flippant, hilarious fashion. One of my favorite things about this series is the colorful names he gives the characters. Maggy the Frog is “Fortuneteller Amy Winehouse.” Melisandre is “Evil Stevie Nicks.” White Rat is “Not-so-racially ambiguous Vin Diesel.” And they just keep coming. Bless this show.
Also, after being let out of the crate, Tyrion was “more pissed off than my cat in a pet taxi on a cross-country trip.”
Finally, Saturday Night Live got in on the Game of Thrones fever by putting a John Singleton spin on the show by taking us to ‘South Centros,’ where Ice Cube and company navigate the urban jungle so often neglected by the lords and ladies from the rich parts of Westeros. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau guest stars as The Man.
And there you have it. We’ll keep bringing you the latest in Game of Thrones hilarity as long as the internet keeps making it or it becomes incredibly tiresome, whichever comes first.
