NIU offering Game of Thrones College Course, Because Why Not?

BND.com is reporting that Northern Illinois University is offering a Game of Thrones course this semester. The official title is “Game of Thrones, Television and Medieval History.” Successfully completing the course will earned students honors credits.

The Game of Thrones course syllabus includes reading and watching episodes of the show, and students will also see presentations on how Game of Thrones  relates to modern cable technology, history, and current world events. NIU professor Jeff Chown had this to say: “There was tremendous demand. I think the class filled up in about an hour.”

I mean, of course there was tremendous demand for a Game of Thrones class. This class is the equivalent of me taking bowling as a PE class when I was in college. Seriously, why would a student NOT want to be a part of this course? You get to watch what is arguably one of the top series in television history, talk about it, and do cool Game of Thrones inspired presentations!

What would a Game of Thrones presentation for class even look like? Instead of making a volcano that actually erupts, like we did in middle-school, a presentation in this class could consist of a cardboard cut-out of Robb Stark’s body with his direwolf’s head attached. It could be called, “Why you shouldn’t trust anyone…ever.” I could even see a few Venn Diagrams of Jaime and Cersei’s sexcapades with adjoining categories of all the places they’ve boned and been caught or almost caught, and what happened to those who caught them.

Although silly-sounding, this class is probably the greatest college course in human history…at least if you’re a frat bro, or stoner. Guess I’ll be re-enrolling in college. I’ll Soon you’ll be calling me Doctor Razor, once I receive my doctorate in Game of Thrones.
