Inside The Episode: “The House of Black and White”
We’ve got three videos from the Game of Thrones YouTube channel that take a deep dive into Sunday’s episode, “The House of Black and White.” We’ll start, as always, with David Benioff and Dan Weiss discussing what they see as the major happenings of the week.
They start by talking about Dorne and Prince Doran, whom we met for the first time on Sunday. David and Dan suggest that Oberyn was free to be the rebellious character he was because he was the younger son and never stood to inherit. Doran is the eldest and feels responsible for the well-being of the people of Dorne, and that means suppressing his own desire for revenge. Also covered in this segment: Kevan’s dismissal of Cersei and Dany’s poor leadership decisions.
Next, George R.R. Martin discusses the election of the 998th Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, highlighting Sam’s quick thinking in getting his friend Jon elected.
And finally, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Lena Headey sit down to talk about the threat against Myrcella, and the scene where Jaime decides to go to Dorne. “When Cersei doesn’t like somebody, she’s like a kid, and evil kid…” Your effective ruler, ladies and gentlemen of Westeros.
And though no one really discusses it in this week’s deep dives, HBO released a clip of Arya being accepted into the House of Black and White, and Jaqen H’ghar revealing himself. Hopefully we get a peek inside the House next week.
