Relive “The House of Black and White,” now in GIF form!
“The House of Black and White,” the second episode of Game of Thrones’ fifth season, gave us so many good scenes that the only real way to capture their magic is to memorialize them in GIF forms. “The House of Black and White” marked a coming home of sorts for Tom Wlaschiha (Jaqen H’ghar), and featured the Season 5 debut of Arya Stark no one. Now that we’ve seen episode 502, it’s time to inspect, critique, and break down every scene…or almost every scene. Let’s get started!
Arya sailed into Braavos, and we got to hear the Titan bellow, although I always imagined it to be much louder.
Once in Braavos, Arya made for The House of Black and White in hopes of finding Jaqen H’ghar. Enjoy the beautifully moody shots of a thunderstorm gathering over the House below.
Valar Dohaeris.
Arya knocks on the door, hopeful that she would finally find her friend.
Instead, she’s greeted by this guy.
In Westeros, we pay a visit to the Inn of the Crossroads where literally EVERYTHING of note happens. Seriously, Catelyn arrested Tyrion here. Ned killed Sansa’s direwolf. The Hound identified Arry as Arya Stark. This place should apply to become a historical landmark and reap the tax benefits.
Anyway, once inside, Pod displays his mad skills with the ladies by smiling at one and not talking.
Thanks to Pod’s dame-game, he spots Little Finger and Sansa, so of course Brienne had to get all loud and honorable.
Littlefinger didn’t take too kindly to her blurting out that Sansa Stark was alive and well, and sent his guard out to kill Brienne and Pod…sh*t got real as Brienne chopped some wood real hard.
Then she and Pod raced away on their horses. This is where Game of Thrones turned into a buddy cop flick, complete with car horse chase.
Because Pod doesn’t horse, he went the wrong way, much to Brienne’s chagrin.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and Brienne followed the one that Littlefinger and Sansa were taking, and that will make all the difference in the coming episodes.
Meanwhile, Pod still doesn’t horse.
Apparently, Pod is as inept at chucking rocks as he is at horseback riding. I love Pod.
Thankfully, Brienne came to Pod’s rescue just in time and went all super Sith (obligatory Star Wars tie-in) on those House Arryn soldiers. If you’re a throat, and you see Brienne coming, you should leave. Just leave.
In King’s Landing, Cersei received a strange box…OR DID SHE? Is this all a clever ploy to send Jaime to Dorne? Her Uncle Kevan thinks so.
Uncle Kev stormed out on Cersei. Props to Uncle Kev.
Meanwhile, Bronn and Lollys are enjoying a leisurely stroll down the beach. Note to Bronn, stop being so sweet. At least Jaime fookin Lannister showed up and saved us from a softer side of Bronn that, quite frankly, nobody wants to see.
In Meereen, Daario shows Grey Worm how to be a detective.
And despite Dany’s express wishes to the contrary, Mossador had the Son of the Harpy killed. Good for you, Mossador.
Dany had to execute poor Mossador, which I think was a completely stupid mistake.
BAD MOVE, DANY! NOW THE CAT PEOPLE ARE HISSING AT YOU!
Hey, you know who throws rocks better than Pod? Freed slaves.
Down in Dorne, Ellaria Sand is in no mood for that triflin’ Areo Hotah.
Ellaria also thinks Doran, Oberyn’s brother, is weak.
At the Wall, Gilly learns to write! It’s simply the cutest.
Elsewhere at Castle Black, Jon is offered the Stark name and Winiterfell, which of course he turns down, because…Stark honor and all.
And Olly gives Jon the stink eye when Ser Alliser mentions that Jon loved a wildling girl (foreshadowing at it’s finest).
Then, bing-bang-boom, Jon is made the 998th Lord Commander of The Night’s Watch! Oh, and Olly, I’m not buying your feigned happiness for Jon…I’ve got my eye on you, Olly.
Arya finally met her friend, who is no one.
Finally, we come to Drogon. Personally, I almost wanted Dany to get lit up…if just for a little bit, but I digress.
