Behind the Scenes Filming Game of Thrones: On Location in Croatia

Fans know that Game of Thrones has been shooting in the Old City of Dubrovnik for five seasons–the historical city has stood in for the outdoor scenes in King’s Landing ever since Ned Stark first set foot there. But did you know the show has also using other nearby locations to shoot scenes set in Essos? Croatia really is the production’s home away from home, which is why the show has given it its own behind the scenes production special.

(Also, I’m betting Croatia felt a little left out, since the team has been waxing poetic over the Johnny-come-lately locations in Spain for the last few months.)

Don’t be fooled by the opening, which feels directly lifted from the “A Day In The Life” Special. This is a brand new piece. Even better, there are just a couple of spoilery hints of what’s to come left like Easter Eggs throughout the footage.

Did you catch them? The most obvious is Grandmother Olenna walking through a corner market, but there are a couple of crowd shots that are definitely not from Cersei’s arrival at the Sept for Tywin’s funeral…

And remember, if you’re inspired to head to Croatia to check out Season 6 filming next September–and who wouldn’t be?–drop us a line with any and all pictures you might get of the cast in action (or hanging out waiting for someone to call action).
