Two Game of Thrones Clips Leaked from Kill The Boy

With the four screener episodes over, and the piracy leaks cut off, I had assumed that was the last of the footage we would see ahead of coming episodes. Which is why I was surprised this morning to run across not one, but two leaked clips from this coming Sunday’s episode “Kill The Boy.” They’re from a Game of Thrones fan Instagram page, and both claim to have been pulled from OSN.com, which is a pay TV platform in the Middle East and North Africa, and boasts in large letters of airing HBO’s Game of Thrones “the same minute as the US on OSN on Demand.” Perhaps because I am not a subscriber, I could not find the full clips these Instagram videos were purportedly pulled from, but the first one clearly shows a tagline saying to subscribe at OSN.com.

These clips contain spoilers for this Sunday’s episode (as they are, you know, clips from this Sunday’s episode). You have been warned.

[spoiler-head]

We’ll start with the one that only confirms the sense of existential dread I feel every time someone somewhere brings up Sansa. Let’s check out “Dinner with the Boltons.”

The first terrible part of this is that having “Reek” (Theon) give the bride away mirrors the equivalent storyline played out in A Dance with Dragons, where Reek gives away fake Arya to Ramsay. This does not bode well for those of us hoping that Sansa—being a real Stark and not a fake one—would somehow be spared the worst of Ramsey’s reign of terror. As for Fat Walda being pregnant, I’m sure Ramsey won’t let it live long, especially if it’s a boy. Speaking of killing boys, let’s check out a clip from a scene I am looking forward to.

UPDATE: It looks like this one has already been pulled not two hours after I posted it. It involved Jon and Aemon sitting at a table in Castle Black and Aemon saying thusly to Jon:
“You will have little joy of your command, I fear, but I think you have the strength in you to do the things that must be done. Kill the boy, Jon Snow. Kill the boy. Kill the boy….”

Naturally they cut the dialogue off right there, so someone who doesn’t know the whole quote will assume the worst of Maester Aemon, and assume Olly is going to die or something. But this is a moment lifted directly from a memory Jon has in A Dance with Dragons.

“Allow me to give my lord one last piece of counsel,” the old man had said, “the same counsel I once gave my brother when we parted for the last time. He was three-and-thirty when the Great Council chose him to mount the Iron Throne. A man grown with sons of his own, yet in some ways still a boy. Egg had an innocence to him, a sweetness we all loved. Kill the boy within you, I told him the day I took ship for the Wall. It takes a man to rule. An Aegon, not an Egg. Kill the boy and let the man be born.” The old man felt Jon’s face. “You are half the age that Egg was, and your own burden is crueler one, I fear. You will have little joy of your command, but I think you have the strength in you to do the things that must be done. Kill the boy, Jon Snow. Winter is almost upon us. Kill the boy and let the man be born.” A Dance with Dragons, Chapter 7, “Jon II”

Now I assume some of that will be cut—after all, Jon Snow isn’t half the age of Egg in the series. But one of the things the show has done this season is add in some of the stories about Westeroi history that make Martin’s books so richly detailed—consider Littlefinger’s story about the tourney at Harrenhal in “Sons of the Harpy,” or Barristan Selmy telling Dany about Rhaegar Targaryen and the Mad King . One can hope that a little bit of Aemon’s memories of Egg might make it in.
