Winter is Coming Live: Kill the Boy
It’s time for another edition of WiC Live, where your friendly neighborhood Game of Thrones nerds sit down and break down the latest episode. This week, Adam Rady, Alison Haislip, and Xavier Brinkman dive into “Kill the Boy.” They gives cheers for Stannis, jeers for the army of the dead, and medical warnings about greyscale. You can never be too careful.
As always, we’ve broken the episode down into smaller chunks that can be watched during lulls in boring phone conversations. Be wary of getting your conversational wires crossed.
First, the panelists share their favorite lines from “Kill the Boy.” I’m not sure if it’s my favorite line of the night, but Stannis’ grammar Nazism probably got the biggest laugh out of me.
Next, the team considers whether Jon’s decision to reach out to the wildlings is the right decision. Remember, this is Ned Stark’s son we’re talking about. Ned sometimes favored doing the right thing over doing the savvy thing, much to his detriment. Hopefully, Jon hasn’t inherited that problem.
Greyscale has made a major showing this season, and never moreso than last night, when Tyrion and Jorah were attacked by greyscale-ridden stone men during an eerie fight scene in Old Valyria. If you’re foggy on the details of how the disease is spread, Dr. Alison Haislip has you covered.
If Hizdahr zo Loraq is a quivering jackass and no one is around to see it, is he still uninteresting? That’s sort of the question the team answers next, as they consider what happens to characters when they’re not onscreen.
Finally and in a similar vein, the panelists consider what absent characters they most want to see next week. “Kill the Boy” stuck pretty judiciously to a few key locations, and a lot of folks sat it out. Let’s hope we get plenty of Arya, Jaime, and Cersei in “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.”
Thanks so much to Entertainment Weekly for making this show possible, and for you guys for tuning in! Remember, tweet any questions you have about the episode to #WiC so the panel can discuss them during next week’s episode.
