Storyboarding the Stone Men Fight

Making Game of Thrones is back once again with the storyboards from “Kill The Boy.” As with everything else this week, it focuses on the amazing fight sequence at the end of the episode with the stone men. Will Simpson’s artwork illustrates the way the fight was originally conceived.

He could get touched here indeed. I like that the concept made sure to consider if Jorah would get touched during the onscreen fight or after Tyrion fell in the water.

What’s interesting to me here is that none of these shots ended up being the main ones from the sequence. Instead, the shot of the stone men entering the boat is over the side instead of from the front:

And the real overhead shot straight down into the boat is of Jorah, not Tyrion:

Perhaps deviating from the storyboard was why it wasn’t obvious that Jorah was touched during the fight. Or perhaps the idea was to make it believable that Jorah wasn’t touched, so that the reveal of the spot on his arm had more impact?
