The Mountain hits a Renaissance Fair, plus what other cast members are up to
It’s no secret that Game of Thrones has given pretty much all of the actors and actresses involved a ton of extra exposure, and every once in a while it pays to see how they’re making use of it.
Some of the cast, it seems, prefer to stick with what they know. Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson, the actor/strongman/mythical creature who plays Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane on Game of Thrones, will be invading a Philadelphia Renaissance fair this weekend. The official site for the fair even mocked up a nice ye olde poster for the occasion.
You may note that the poster doesn’t actually say what Björnsson will be doing at the fair, only that he’s murdered people by crushing their skulls and that Philadelphia will need all the lords and ladies it can to apprehend him. If it came to a showdown, I wouldn’t put my money on the lords and ladies. It ends up that Björnsson will actually be doing things like taking photos, engaging in workouts, and leading a horde “in battle”—I’m going to assume that’s a mock battle and that everyone’s skulls will be intact by the end of it.
In other, less violent news, the literary drama Me Before You has been given a release date. Me Before You stars Emilia “Mother of Dragons” Clarke as a small-town girl who takes a job with a wheelchair-bound businessman bitter over the accident that left him incapacitated. The two fall in love, and she teaches him that life is still worth living. It’s kind of like Fifty Shades of Grey, only without all the kinky stuff, or the American setting, or most of the other things that distinguish the story. Anyway, Warner Bros. and MGM will release it on June 3, 2016.
Finally, Mashable has put together a collection of the commercials Game of Thrones cast members have filmed over the course of the show, since this gravy train ain’t gonna last forever and they need to get theirs while the getting’s good. Below, Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane), tones down his intimidating image to play the “Wyndham Rewards Wizard,” a benevolent figure who helps cash-strapped individuals take vacations and creates waffles out of thin air. Thank you, Wyndham Rewards Wizard.
To see the full collection, which also includes Charles Dance hawking whiskey and Kit Harington bravely looking at girls in swimsuits (and high heels) for Jimmy Choo, head over to Mashable. This car commercial featuring a voiceover from Peter Dinklage is also worth a watch. I had no idea buying a Chrysler made you royalty.
