Watch the trailer for Telltale Games’ Game of Thrones: Sons of Winter
Telltale Games has just released the trailer for Episode 4 of their Game of Thrones episodic series—this one is titled “Sons of Winter.” It’s been roughly two months since Episode 3, and I for one am ready to jump into the next chapter.
Breaking down the synopsis from the Telltale Game of Thrones site:
In Episode 4, the fate of the scattered Forresters hangs in the balance, and no one allied with the family is safe.
Well, we have been going through this particularly dangerous dance since Episode 1, and I’m actually happy that Telltale is sticking with this narrative. To me, what makes these episodes so great is the nail-biting tension that each decision inspires.
An unexpected meeting offers Rodrik a new opportunity to free Ironrath from its Whitehill stranglehold, but with young Ryon Forrester still held prisoner, his next moves are critical.
For me, one of the toughest parts of the series has been watching Ryon being dragged away by Lord Whitehill and his men. I’ve gotten so attached to the Forresters because each decision I make will have consequences that I cannot foresee until after I make them, that that attachment is the mark of a great game.
Gared must abandon Castle Black and venture beyond the Wall in search of the mysterious North Grove, risking encounters with Wildlings and worse.
Watching this trailer, and hearing Jon Snow talk about how Gared let him down by breaking his vows, really kind of puts the game, books, and show into perspective. As a book-reader, I know about Jon’s own struggles with his Night’s Watch vows because I had access to his thoughts, and as a show-watcher, I got to actually see the emotions on his face. The game actually allows me to feel the weight of those vows and of the dire consequences when they are broken.
In King’s Landing, the population is reeling from a recent royal death, and Mira must step carefully in an increasingly complex game of politics where secrets are traded as currency.
This should be fun. Being in the thick of the chaos following Joffrey’s death at his own wedding feast was one of the reasons that Episode 3 was so good. Having to maneuver through the Lannister occupation (for lack of a better word) of the capital city, all the while trying to help House Forrester, is a refreshing break from the typical hack and slash of so many other fantasy-based games.
Far away in Essos, Asher infiltrates the slave city of Meereen at the behest of Daenerys Targaryen, but will the friendship he holds dear break under the strain of a mission that raises memories best forgotten?
It looks like we’ll get to help Dany liberate Meereen in Episode 4. I wonder if we’ll fight alongside Grey Worm, Ser Jorah, and Daario. Also, there seem to be more dragons in play, and more dragons is always a good thing, unless you’re one of the Great Master of Meereen.
We don’t have an official release date yet, but if Telltale follows their usual modus operandi, Episode 4 will be coming soon. We will keep you updated.
