Season 5 Finale To Be Shown In Canadian Theaters
Cineplex Movie Theaters announced yesterday that the finale of Game of Thrones Season 5 will be shown on the big screen, in theaters across Canada on Sunday, June 14th. Tickets are available, for free, starting today at 12 noon. Our lucky Canadian readers (and our border-adjoining US ones) can click here to see which theaters are showing it and reserve tickets.
Dany: “We should move to Canada.”Hizdahr: “It is tradition to avoid such a place.”
Though showing Game of Thrones season finales in theaters is a phenomenon that only started in the US this year, Canada has been ahead of the curve. Last year, the Season 4 finale was shown in 29 Canadian theaters, with all 11,000 tickets (again, free) snatched up within days of becoming available. With GoT fever higher than ever up north, where they understand all too well how hard winter can be, HBO’s Canada and Cineplex Theaters have more than doubled the number of theaters showing the finale—74 in all.
According to the CBC, the airing won’t be that far off from the experience US movie goers had in IMAX this past January, when Season 4 episodes 9 and 10 screened in theaters “as part of the pre-show” prior to the Season 5 premiere. Also part of the preshow: “previews of upcoming HBO shows including Season 2 of True Detective, and Ballers starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.”
