Season 5: “The Dance of Dragons” Trailer

With the end of every episode comes the “Next Time” trailer. We’ve reached the ninth episode, which is nearly always the pinnacle episode of the season. This season, this pivotal episode is entitled “The Dance of Dragons.” In other years, this episode has contained big game-changing deaths (Seasons 1 and 3) or big battles (Season 2 and 4.) We already had a big battle this last Sunday with “Hardhome.” Perhaps it’s best we should start fearing for the lives of our leading characters…

Nearly all of this footage is new, with the exception of one shot, so let’s get to the breakdown of clips.

  • As Jon and his wildling survivors reach the gates, I can’t help but think about Qyburn’s line to Cersei: “Belief is the death of reason.” Jon now truly believes in the White Walker threats. Will this look like he’s lost his reason to the rest of Castle Black?
  • I think this is Dorne’s last chance to right itself after not coming off very well all season. Over to you, Doran.
  • Bronn and Tyene are still flirting across the jail cells. Maybe he’ll sing for us some more?
  • Arya’s got her poison and her assignment, though the Many Faced God doesn’t really care if she fails in her mission.
  • The real question is if the Many Faced God cares if she reorients her mission for her own purposes. Somehow I think he might.
  • Battle scenes in Stannis’ camp, with fire, Davos, and Melisandre.
  • I’m very worried about Stannis and his insistence on “filling his destiny.” Worse, the only place Shireen has to run is…the Boltons.
  • I looked closely—neither of the men standing before Dany in the pit are Jorah.
  • That shot of Dany clapping to open the pits is still awesome.
