Inside the Episode: The Dance of Dragons
I hope you and your dragon have landed somewhere comfortable, because it’s time for the weekly deep dive into this past Sunday’s episode. If “Hardhome” was all about ice, “The Dance of Dragons” was all about fire. Unlike last week’s deep dive, where (due to nearly everything being “off book”) Martin sat the week out, this week we’ve got videos from the original author’s perspective, the producer’s perspective, and the actor’s perspective. Let’s dig in.
First up, Benioff and Weiss discuss the terrible fate of Shireen. Then it’s on to Arya’s lies, and Jorah’s and Drogon’s return to Meereen via the fighting pits.
Considering the audience response to Shireen’s death, I love that Benioff quietly throws Martin under the bus on it. (Book spoiler alert!)
Perhaps that’s why Martin’s clip is not about the scene with Shireen, but about the history and inspiration for the fighting pits of Meereen.
Our actor deep dive this week is with Alexander Siddig and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. They discuss the events in Dorne, and Prince Doran’s choice to send Trystane and Myrcella back to King’s Landing.
And finally, this week’s watch-it-again clip: Drogon’s arrival and his rescue of Dany.
