Hilarity roundup: Game of Thrones meets Star Wars, Thelma and Louise, and the zoo

Are you still thinking about that horrible scene with Shireen from “The Dance of Dragons?” Were you not thinking about it before reading that, but now you are? In either case, you’re probably sad. Here’s a few amusing Game of Thrones-themed tidbits that might cheer you up.

First up is Northern Ireland’s final Game of Thrones-related publicity stunt. All season long, Northern Irish authorities have been trying to drum up tourism by doing things like selling “dragon eggs” at market and freezing the water in a public square and claiming that White Walkers did it. This last stunt involves setting up an animatronic dragon with a 10-foot wingspan at Belfast Zoo, where it can admired by both children and adults with really overactive imaginations.

Interest in Game of Thrones has driven tourism to Northern Ireland ever since the production started filming there in 2010, so it makes sense for the authorities to try and capitalize on the show’s popularity. These stunts have been goofy but fun—let’s hope they’ve brought more money into the local economy.

Next, we have the penultimate episode of Funny or Die’s Gay of Thrones series, as hairdresser Jonathan Van Ness breaks down “The Dance of Dragons.”

Here are the character nicknames that are either new or worth repeating. Also, I’m glad Van Ness mad the Thelma and Louise reference so I don’t have to. Bless this show.

  • Stannis: Between-jobs Jason Statham
  • That horse that got set on fire: American Pharoah left in the toaster oven
  • Mace Tyrell: Colonel Mustard
  • Meryn Trant: Kingsguard R. Kelly (yeah, he said “Knightsguard,” but this is what he meant)
  • Shireen: Little baby Galápagos
  • Daznak’s Pit officiator: Middle-aged Jared Leto
  • The Sons of the Harpy: the Party City Mardi Gras troop
  • Drogon: Edward James Olmos the dragon

Still not smiling? Here’s Jon Snow killing that White Walker from “Hardhome” with a lightsaber. There are also special appearances from Legolas, Bruce Campbell, and Michael Jackson. Brrrazzow…that was my attempt at lightsaber onomatopoeia.

Also, Chrys K returns with another hilarious subtitled recap of the latest episode. Here are some sample shots from the recap of “The Dance of Dragons.”

Drogon

Laugh through the pain. God only knows how much of this we’ll all need come the finale.
