Jon Snow Has Gone to Hell

Jon Snow is going to hell. Seven Days in Hell that is, an upcoming HBO mockumentary. Really, it’s the most sensible thing to do once you’re dead, to just get your time in hell over with. I assume Kit Harington took pointers on how best to handle this from Sean Bean, who is deeply experienced in dying.

Let’s ogle Harington’s finally uncovered legs in the trailer, shall we?

Even better, after five seasons of being stuck in the black, we finally get to see Harington wear another color. (Ok, white, but hey. I’m just saying, just because a man takes the black, must he take it everywhere? I think not. Thank heavens death has freed Harington from a lack of color in his wardrobe for the rest of his life.)

The film is a mockumentary, with Andy Samberg playing “bad boy of tennis” Aaron Williams and Harington playing “tennis prodigy and truck driver” Charles Poole. But do note, the concept of a seven-day match at Wimbledon isn’t actually that far-fetched. In 2010, there was nearly something like this: the infamous Isner–Mahut match, where the two semi-finalist played for 11+ hours over three days, due to the oddity of advantage set rules, which didn’t allow for a sensible tie break like the US Open has. (For the record, the Australian and French Opens and the Olympics follow the advantage set rules as well.)

The characters Samberg and Harington play are also somewhat based on real life tennis players. Samberg’s Williams is based on 1980s US tennis champ John McEnroe, which explains the 1980s-style hair. (The real McEnroe appears in the film as well, along with many famous faces from the tennis world, as a talking head.) Harington seems to be going more for the more modern Andy Murray vibe.

Even if I wasn’t a tennis fan, I’d tune in though. Because seriously, Jon Snow in shorts. And who doesn’t love a good man bun? At least if he’s spending seven days in hell, he doesn’t have to wear his heavy black furs.
