Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner Worry About Season 6

At the end of Season 5, many fates were sealed, including those of the younger generation of characters from the show. Shireen was burned at the stake. Myrcella was poisoned. Jon Snow was stabbed the death. Growing up in Westeros was never easy, even before Winter was baring down on everyone, but now it’s downright deadly.

But Arya and Sansa’s fates were left more uncertain. Now that Jon is dead (or is he…?), the sisters represent fully half of the dwindling Stark clan, and neither of them outright met death on screen this season. That’s probably for the best, considering that the other half have either taken up residence in a magic tree (Bran) or gone completely AWOL (Rickon.) But what will happen to them? With Arya struck blind for disobeying the Many Faced God, and Sansa’s last act a desperate jump from the high walls of Winterfell, we have no idea what their fates will be when we rejoin them in Season 6. (This is true even if and when The Winds of Winter comes out, as the show has shuffled Arya’s storyline around, and Sansa lives in an alternate universe from the one in the books.)

Both Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, the actresses who play Arya and Sansa, are very concerned about this. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Williams admitted she doesn’t want Arya to remain blind forever, if for no other reason than she doesn’t want to wear the contacts, each of which covers her entire eye and renders the actress pretty much blind in real life.

“I don’t want to wear these crazy contacts for the rest of my time on Thrones!…I don’t know how … that will impede her life. She’s going to become very vulnerable thanks to that. It’s exciting and scary. So I’m worried about next year.”

Theon and Sansa jump--Official HBO

Unlike Williams, who read the cliff notes of the books to stay abreast of what might happen to her, Sophie Turner has always preferred to wait for the scripts to find out her fate. But that doesn’t mean she isn’t speculating, along with fellow desperate jumper Alfie Allen, who plays Theon.

“I don’t want to know, but Alfie and I have been talking about it a lot…We reckon Theon and Sansa will get away, but then Sansa will sell Theon out and be like, ‘Screw you,’ and go out on her own. Or Ramsay will come and chase them down. But I don’t think the two of them will stay together as buddies, though that would be kind of cool.”

So at least she assumes the two of them survive the jump without breaking any limbs. (If she continues to follow Jeyne’s arc, that’s accurate, though she will have a terrible time with frostbite.) Either way, like Arya, we’ll have to wait for Season 6 (or spoilers thereof) to find out the fate of the Stark girls.
