WELP. There went that theory.

Hizdahr zo Loraq can blame the books for this one. In A Dance with Dragons, fans have theorized that he really is trying to betray Dany. The theory goes that he tried to poison her so could become the King of Meereen, and that he’s the secret force behind the Sons of the Harpy, the insurgents who bedevil Dany’s rule over the city.

But the show pulled a fast one on us. It turns out that this version of Hizzy wasn’t in league with the terrorist forces. (They would call themselves freedom fighters, I’m sure.) In fact, when the attack on the ruling class came, in an echo of the Sparrow uprising in King’s Landing, it turned out that the Master who would betray his people and marry the interloping queen was first one against the wall. Or in this case, the tent pole.
