New Pics From Dubrovnik Show Cersei and a Made-Up Mountain

Last week, Game of Thrones made a surprise stopover in Dubrovnik, after swearing up and down it wouldn’t be in Croatia this season. Exactly what changed, we can’t know. Perhaps the producers realized that wherever they thought they’d film in Spain wasn’t going to work for this particular scene? Or perhaps they just wanted to fool the tourist hordes. Either way, it was a quick stop over. We haven’t seen any sign of filming since.

But The Dubrovnik Times does have a few new pictures from that shoot, one of which shows some very interesting facial make-up on Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane).

The Mountain wasn’t clearly visible in the first round of pictures, but it looks as if Cersei doesn’t go anywhere nowadays without her Ser Robert Strong. Note the grey square painted all around his eyes—if the show stays consistent with how it did things last season, that’s the only part of him that will be visible once the armor is on.

But wait. Lena Headey is clearly in costume already in these pics, while the Mountain…is not.

Not that I’m saying he should be. I would assume that a suit of armor made for a man of Björnsson’s size is freakishly heavy, and he won’t want to put it on until right before the shoot. Maybe he’s waiting until they arrive at the filming location before suiting up.

But it does raise the question: what exactly is happening in this scene? Earlier pictures showed Cersei standing at the end of a dock, perhaps waiting for Myrcella to return. Or perhaps she’s contemplating revenge now that she has her freedom back. But the fact that she has Robert Strong with her is interesting. Does he just follow her about like a shadow? Is she planning on ordering him to do something for her?
