Game of Thrones Episode 606: “Blood of My Blood” Trailer Breakdown

So the opening three seconds of the trailer have a LOT of very fast-moving very dark images, like the one above, intercut with a lot of blackouts in order to make it even harder to discern what’s going on. We went through the trailer frame by frame this morning, pulled every last shot (ten in all, if you remove the blackouts in between), and lightened them so we can see what’s going on.

Book-readers, we think you’ll like what we saw.

Here’s a lightened version of the shot above—clearly, we’re picking up right where we left off after Hodor died at the end of “The Door,” with the wights chasing Meera and Bran through the woods.

Let’s be real: Hodor’s loss is a huge issue for Bran and Meera. Hodor could pull the sled. Meera can’t. It’s snowing, she’s exhausted, and she basically collapses and lays on top of Bran to protect him, while sobbing how sorry she is.

Bran, for the record? NOT EVEN HERE. He’s still warged off at Winterfell or wherever, accidentally traumatizing gentlefolk by making them live their eventual deaths fifty years in the future.

Part of the reason these shots are dark is that it’s snow storm central. Winter done come, and Meera and Bran are in the middle of it.

(You can’t even see the detail of all the CGI that went into these wights because the original shots are so dark. But they’re so good!)

So the point is that Bran and Meera are outgunned, outnumbered, and outplanned….

…and it looks like this is the end for our heroes.

At this point, let’s take a little detour into the second trailer for Game of Thrones Season 6. Around 1:18, a mysterious figure rides down a wight:

It’s not guaranteed, but this looks like it’s from the same scene depicted in the trailer. That looks like Bran and Meera huddling in the corner.

Hello, Coldhands? For non-book readers, Coldhands is a character who rescues Sam and Gilly earlier in the story (the show cut him at the time) and escorts Bran and company to the Three-Eyed Raven’s cave.

Thus far, Coldhands has been cut completely. But it looks like we really will finally get him, or a character who adopts his role. At any rate, someone comes to Bran and Meera’s rescue.
