But although the production did something very unique during the battle itself, when it came to ending the battle, it went full Lord of the Rings.

I mean, seriously, the only thing missing from this shot is the sun rising behind the Knights of the Vale in the East. (I blame it on it being a cloudy winter’s day.)

I love this shot so much, because Littlefinger is almost cropped out of it. Sansa is the focus. Sansa leads this army.

The crush is broken as the horses smash the shield wall from behind.

Sansa has saved Jon and his army.

And with the crush loosening, Jon marches out, determined to find Ramsay.

Speaking of which, he’s still sitting right where he’s been the entire time. And he’s a little shocked to suddenly discover he’s not winning anymore.

Oops, gotta go.

The difference in how clean Ramsay is and how almost inhuman Jon looks caked in mud has to be deliberate.

Sansa is no longer watching the battle, either. She knows the true quarry is Ramsay.

And he’s getting away.
