See what happened inside the Tower of Joy (Video)

Ever since A Song of Ice and Fire was dramatized for TV, fans have wondered: what in heaven’s name happened inside the Tower of Joy? Does it mean that R+L=J? What happened to Lyanna Stark? What happened to Ned that so affected him?

We’ve already visited the Tower of Joy once this season, when Ned Stark and Arthur Dayne fought in “Oathbreaker.” But when it was time to go inside, the Three-Eyed Raven pulled Bran away. He’s not around to do that again.

SPOILERS AHEAD.

There’s a silence surrounding me
I can’t seem to think straight
I’ll sit in the corner
No one can spoiler me

It doesn’t have to be like this
All we need to do is make sure we keep talking

Ned Stark at the Tower of Joy

Meet me Inside…

Finally, Ned Stark has entered the Tower of Joy, and Bran with him. Tonight we finally saw what happened to Lyanna Stark, and how she died. And it’s exactly as we suspected: she bled out after giving birth, because that sort of thing happens when one gives birth in an abandoned tower in the mountains of Dorne after the man who impregnated her (more than likely Rhaegar Targaryen) died on the battlefield.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get any details about the relationship between Lyanna and Rhaegar. We didn’t find out if they got married, or what exactly Lyanna whispered to Ned as she lay dying. All we heard was the line that book-readers have known since reading A Game of Thrones. “Promise me, Ned.”

We did get something else, though: we got confirmation that the child of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen is, indeed, that broody fellow from up north. It’s Jon Snow.

Welp. If that wasn’t *the* biggest hint, I don’t know what was.

But what did Lyanna whisper before she said “Promise me, Ned?” Was it that this is Rhaegar’s baby?
