Ramin Djawadi for Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Original Dramatic Score)

With all due respect to the other people on this list, yesterday’s biggest shocker was that Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi wasn’t nominated for his work on Season 6. Djawadi has been nominated for Emmys before, but never for Game of Thrones, despite writing the now-iconic opening theme. His compositions have always been memorable, from the plaintive Stark theme to the chilling “The Rains of Castamere.” He outdid himself in Season 6 when he wrote a song called “Light of the Seven,” a song that had a lot to do with why the first 20 minutes of “The Winds of Winter” were as breathtaking as they were. Have a listen.

Maybe the Television Academy will give Djawadi a nod when the series has wrapped, because it’s becoming clearer than ever that he deserves one.
