If you like your historical fiction with a little fantasy mixed in (and you can’t, y’know, watch Game of Thrones), then Outlander is the show for you. Based on the wildly popular books by Diana Gabaldon (a personal friend of Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin), Outlander follows a happily married World War II nurse named Claire Randall from the year 1945. When she finds herself transported back to Scotland to the year 1743, she encounters Highland warrior Jamie Fraser, along with his band of Highlanders. Assuming she’s stuck in that time, Claire dedicates herself to the Highlanders and their cause, and becomes involved with the Jacobite rebellion.
There are currently two seasons of Outlander available on Starz. Season 1 consists of 16 episodes, and Season 2 has 13. Season 3 will premiere in 2017.
