Some fans think Euron is a big problem for Westeros, what with him decimating every last tree on the Iron Islands to build 1000 ships and rumors that he’ll be involved in a major battle in Season 7.

I am here to tell you that this is nonsense. As with Donald Trump, there’s no there there when it comes to Euron. He’s all bluster, the kid who didn’t do his homework and blamed it on the dog, and now he has major manhood-proving problems. Yes, he may blunder into a sea battle at some point. Some overweening, under-careful characters may even become his prisoners. But, ladies and gentlemen, Euron Greyjoy’s story is a shaggy dog story. He is, like communism, a red herring.

And what do we know about shaggy dogs and red herrings? They are cannon fodder…or canon fodder. Euron is here to get in the way until it becomes necessary for him to no longer be in the way. And although he may be allowed to get in the way for a good long while on the page, on the screen, there are only 13 episodes left. He’ll get in, do his damage, and die.
