Sansa Stark

Sansa Stark Official

Full disclosure: I am currently of the school of thought that, of all the women who are posed to rule in Westeros, Sansa is most likely to die. (This is different from Cersei, who is already ruling and whose fate is sealed.) Partly, this is because when I imagine the final battle in Season 8, I can imagine Dany there, on dragonback. I can image Jon Snow and his sword. I can imagine Tyrion there. I can even imagine Arya and Melisandre there, doing something on the sidelines that effects the final outcome.

I don’t picture Sansa anywhere.

And when I realize that, it seems clear. Sansa’s chances of survival this season are low.

Here are some of my predictions: I think she will leave Winterfell. I think she will at least appear to side with Littlefinger and his Chaos-Ladder-to-the-Mirrorball-Trophy-and-Iron-Throne plan. Whether she’ll do that because she earnestly wants to or because her plan is to pull the rug out from under Littlefinger and kill him is up for debate. Personally, I like the latter explanation over the former, but that doesn’t mean it’s right.

Either way, that brings us to a denouement at the end of the season where she either has to betray Littlefinger or lose the struggle for the Iron Throne. Neither of these scenarios seem survivable. Whether Sansa’s death comes as a relief moment or she gets a heroically tragic sendoff is TBD. But if I were a betting woman , I’d lay my money on her not being around for Season 8.

But just in case my earlier theory of “all female rulers everywhere” holds too strong for Sansa to die, we’ll hedge.

Chance of Survival: 30%
