The Sand Snakes

GoT 610 64 the sandsnakes

This one’s easy. According to SPOILERS (please back out now if you don’t want to learn more), at least one of the Sand Snakes will die in Game of Thrones Season 7. Word is that Euron Greyjoy will do one in, possibly during a naval battle. How exciting.

But really, even without that information, we could have guessed that not all of these ladies were long for this world. Last we saw them, they were joining up with Daenerys and Olenna Tyrell to fight Cersei. As warriors, odds are they’ll be involved in battles, and that means they’re at risk of death.

The producers are heading into the endgame and want to raise the stakes—killing characters is a tried-and-true way to do that, and the Sand Snakes are incredibly expendable. They’ve been on the show for two years but haven’t developed much in the way of personality. At best, fans tolerate them. At worst, they hate them. The Sand Snakes are cannon fodder, pure and simple.

I wish there was more nuance to discuss here, but nuance and the Sand Snakes aren’t on good terms. The Sand Snakes were beige blobs of girl power when they were introduced in Season 5, and they’re beige blobs of girl power now. Hopefully, the show can get us to care about one of more of them before they start dying off, but die off they will. The most they can hope for is that one (maaaaybe two) survive to Season 8, but unless we’ve been misinformed, there’s little chance that all three make it.

Chance of all three Sand Snakes surviving: 1%
