Olenna Tyrell is a survivor. This is a woman for whom there is no peer. No, really, there are no peers to her. Because they’re all *dead.* Think about it. When was the last time you saw anyone her age on screen with her? Tywin Lannister, back in Season 4. Dead. When was the last time you saw anyone close to her age onscreen, period? There was Pycelle, also dead. And Maester Aemon, who understood that the only way to win the game is to refuse to play.

He’s dead, too.

But if you are going to stay, and you are going to play, there’s only one way to survive, and that’s to be the best damn dirtiest player in the game. And Olenna has proved she’s worthy of the title. With one flick of her finger she not only saved her granddaughter from a marriage to a monster, but she did it after the daughter married him but before it was consummated, so she was still eligible to marry the next brother down. And her actions didn’t just save her granddaughter. They took out the entire Lannister family, since it inspired them to start eating each other alive until the only one left was Cersei, Queen of the Ashes.

Why will Olenna live? Why not? She hasn’t died yet. Look, once you hit a certain age in Westeros and they haven’t killed you, they’re not going to. And now she’s got a reason to keep on keeping on, and that’s to see Cersei taken down once and for all.
