6. Grey Worm and Missandei

On the one hand, I’ve never quite bought the low-key love story between these two characters. When it started getting more screen time in Season 5 — their most tender moment yet is when they share a kiss in “Kill the Boy” — it kind struck me as an example of the producers getting two characters together because it didn’t know what else to do with them.

But on the other hand, there’s a purity to the relationship that’s very sweet, and they do have a lot in common. Both former slaves, Missandei and Grey Worm endured brutal lives under the heel of the cruel Masters of Astapor before being set free by Daenerys Targaryen, to whom they are both fiercely devoted. And their relationship didn’t come out of nowhere in season 5 — the show planted the seeds in season 4, when Missandei was teaching Grey Worm the common tongue, and later when he stared a little too long at her while bathing in the river.

Then there’s the other difficulty: Grey Worm is a eunuch. That could put a damper on their sex life, but then again, there are ways around that.
