Game of Thrones scouts Urueña Castle in Spain for season 8 filming

HBO is looking ahead to filming the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, as El Cisco Urueña reports that the production scouted Urueña Castle, located in the Castile region of Spain.

Below, you can see GoT producers Chris Newman and Bernie Caulfield outside the castle walls, which trace their origins back to the 11th century. Pedro ‘Tate’ Aráez, the show’s Spanish location coordinator, was also on sight.

The trio were reportedly interested in the “Peinador de la Reina,” a rounded tower in the castle and the tallest part of it. They also reportedly looked at the Church of Saint Mary of Azogue, which dates back to the 16th century.

Any and all of this looks like prime real estate for a Game of Thrones shoot. True, it all looks sunny in these images, which is a bit of a contrast with the winter we’re always promised. But as Watchers on the Wall points out, it’s all about when the show films, because if it shows up during the right time of year, the place can look like this:

HBO also plans to return to select locations in Seville for season 8, so it looks like Spain will again play a big part during the Game of Thrones production cycle.
