They wouldn’t kill Gilly and Little Sam, would they?

I doubt it. I know Game of Thrones doesn’t operate on karmic principles, but these two have done absolutely nothing to deserve death. All Gilly has ever done is try to get away from her abusive family and support Sam, and all Little Sam has ever done is be an infant. If Game of Thrones decides to kill them, it could very well read as exploitative, like the show is killing innocents to drive home the life-or-death stakes of the war against the dead rather than because the story demands it.

That said, Gilly and Little Sam are at Winterfell, which means they’ll be in danger when and if the White Walkers make their way south. With the army of the dead on the way, there should be plenty of legitimate opportunities for them to die, although it would be tragic indeed. Why didn’t you stay in school, Sam?

But I don’t think the show will go there. For one thing, Sam is cautious, and has taken care to remove Gilly and Little Sam from harm’s way on several occasions — it’s part of the reason he went to Oldtown at the end of season 5. But mainly I just don’t think the show would be that callous.

I hope I’m not fooling myself.
