Yara Greyjoy

Yara’s story arc has been a bit erratic going back as far as season 3, proceeding in fits and starts. The most notable example of this is probably when she tried to rescue Theon from Ramsay Bolton (then Snow) in season 4. When forecasting where a character might go in the future, It’s helpful to look back and examine their past, seeing if seeds planted earlier have blossomed over time. In Yara’s case, it seems like several sprouts died early, only for different seeds to be sown and in turn neglected again. We saw this in again in season 7, where Yara’s team-up with Ellaria and the Sand Snakes was a non-starter.

At the end of season 7, Yara is a prisoner of her uncle Euron. While we haven’t seen all of what that entails, it seems less intense than it is for Aeron Greyjoy in the Song of Ice and Fire novels, at least. That said, Yara is in a lot of danger. For now, she will have to hope that Theon’s ploy to rescue her will prove more successful than it was the other way around.

In a way, how likely we think it is that Yara will die depends on how likely we think it is that Theon and Euron will live. Who, we should ask ourselves, will rule the Iron Islands at the end of the story? Someone will, surely. Knowing that we’re headed for a “bittersweet” ending, it’s hard to picture Euron in that role — too bitter — and Theon seems destined for a heroic sacrifice, Yara might just be the one Greyjoy to make it out of this alive.

Chance of death: 30%
