Robin Arryn

Rather than asking whether Robin Arryn will survive Game of Thrones season 8, we might ask whether he’ll show up all. The only son of former Hand of the King Jon Arryn, the sickly Robin sat out the most recent season of the show, and we wonder if producers will have time to fold him in to the final six episodes. True, Robin is technically the leader of the Vale, although his stepfather Littlefinger had been running things in his stead since season 4. With Littlefinger dead, the Vale needs a new commander. Will Robin step up?

It’s doubtful. Robin is an immature weakling unfit to lead anyone. Even if he wanted to take command, the Knights of the Vale — the kingdom’s main fighting force — are at Winterfell, with Robin leagues away in the Vale proper. Another leader — say Sansa Stark or “Bronze” Yohn Royce — may step into the power vacuum left by Littlefinger’s absence, if only temporarily. Once the White Walkers bear down on Winterfell, the Knights of the Vale will have bigger problems than deciding the proper chain of command.

And if Robin does show up, he’ll probably be okay leaving the high-level decision-making to someone else. We can’t picture this kid bravely throwing himself into the fight against the White Walkers. And if Sansa wanted to cement her control over the Knights of the Vale, we imagine Robin would be all too happy to play his part as a pawn in her marriage scheme.

In any case, Robin should be kept away from the battlefield, which is a good thing for his chances of survival. Then again, with an army of ice monsters bent on eradicating all life on the move, we can’t be certain of anything.

Chance of death: 30%
