Lyanna Mormont is a firecracker. Lyanna Mormont isn’t afraid of being on the front lines and getting her hands dirty. Lyanna Mormont is probably the only character on the show that everyone is afraid to cross, and if they aren’t, they probably haven’t met her. All of these statements are true.

It’s her unshakable confidence that makes us a little afraid for Lyanna heading into season 8. In season 7, she was fully behind Jon Snow’s call to train everybody — girl and boy — for battle, and even though she didn’t take direct part in the Battle of the Bastards (beyond staring daggers at Ramsay Bolton), we can’t see her sitting idly by while her troops fight the Night King and the army of the dead when they inevitably come knocking at Winterfell. Confident or not, that puts her right in the Night King’s crosshairs, and that has us worried.

On the other hand, who’s to say the Night King’s won’t explode when he comes within 100 feet of the young Lady Mormont? Or, more realistically, that her loyal band of Bear Islanders will keep her safe until the war is over? Yes, it’s possible she’s on the chopping block, but it would seem overly cruel for Game of Thrones to come for such an unabashed fan favorite, especially when she’s a child, and especially when killing her wouldn’t advance the story.

Then again, this show has killed little girls before. Let’s hope we’re not in for a repeat.
