Who’s going to die in Game of Thrones season 8? Odds on every character

The Night King

As the big baddie of the series, surely the Night King has to die before the series is over, right? At first glance, the answer has to be yes. The good guys have to triumph, and the bad guys have to be punished. Only this isn’t the Shrek trilogy; it’s Game of Thrones. Could the Night King somehow survive the war he has put in motion?

First, consider that we don’t know much about the Night King or his motivations. We saw an unnamed man turned into the first White Walker, whom we assume is the Night King, against his will by the Children of the Forrest. The Night King didn’t ask to be turned into an unfeeling weapon of mass destruction. The Night King could simply be trying to knock down the Wall as a means to escape a prison he did nothing to deserve. Or maybe the Night King has no feelings whatsoever, and is simply following his programming like some sort of messed-up Roomba. Either way, there’s room for ambiguity.

We’ve also heard members of the cast comment about the finale of Thrones not pleasing everyone. Perhaps they’re hinting that the ending won’t be as cut and dried as everyone expects? Perhaps the Night King is driven back north of the Wall rather than killed? Or might he even win? I’m still betting on a traditional ending where Jon Snow drives Longclaw through the Night King’s frozen heart, but we can’t discount the possibility of a curve ball. It wouldn’t be the first time.
