Who’s going to die in Game of Thrones season 8? Odds on every character

Sandor “the Hound” Clegane

The Hound has changed more than almost any other character on Game of Thrones. When we first meet him he’s a child-killing lackey of the Lannisters. Now, Sandor Clegane is a stalwart defender of the living. (Just don’t ask him for a hug.) But will the younger of the Clegane brothers live to a ripe old age or perish in the wars to come?

Despite the looming battles with the White Walkers, I think the Hound survives the final season of the series. Ignoring the fact that I nurse a secret desire to see the Hound take up golfing or fishing in a peaceful retirement, I think his “death” at the end of season 4 figuratively paid his debt. He may not have been literally died and come back to life like Jon Snow, but that event set him on a new, more righteous path.

And if the Hound were to die, it might not be because of the White Walkers. In season 7, the Hound briefly confronted his brother, Gregor “the Mountain” Clegane. While a final conflict between the two was teased, it seems we’ll have to wait until season 8 to see it play out in full, and the Hound has to stay alive at least long enough for that to happen. And when it finally goes down, I’m betting the Hound will come out the victor. Then it’s all fishing and golfing from there on out.
