What should HBO’s new Game of Thrones prequel series be called?

The Game Before Time

We’ve been talking about wholly original titles for this show, but Martin noted something important in his blog post on the subject: “More likely HBO will want to work the phrase ‘game of thrones’ in there somewhere.”

Like it or not, that makes sense. HBO will want to brand this show so it’s recognizable to fans of the original. This title comes from commenter Thomas Chainsaw Ledbetter, who may or may not have been joking; I dunno. But the point is that any title will likely incorporate the words “game,” “of,” or “thrones.”

Game of Thrones: Age of Heroes

If I had to put down money, I’d say this is the most likely title for the show. Well, either this or Game of Thrones: The Long Night. Here’s a way for HBO to get that Game of Thrones branding it wants so badly but also to distinguish the show from what came before.

Honestly, I’d prefer they not incorporate Game of Thrones into the title, but realistically, it’s probably going to happen.
