Episode 3: “The Princess of Darkness”

“The Princess of Darkness” keeps its foot on the gas, bringing the hilarity at a rapid clip. In fact, this may be my favorite episode yet.

Bean, Elfo and Luci get wasted and steal a carriage, then decide the cure for an epic hangover is snakeroot (basically medieval fantasy Adderall), which they steal from Bean’s stepmother. They steal a lot.

Theft begets theft, apparently, because after they get high, the gang starts stealing stuff left and right? And it all ends with Bean joining a gender-neutral street gang and being pressured to rob her family’s royal crypt.

Once again, Luci brings a deadpan comic punch every time the episode is about to hit a lull, but this one is all about Bean. We get to see her act like the rebellious teenage princess she, which leads to some good gags. When her dad catches her stealing, her father decides she’s possessed by a demon and tries to exorcize her. Luci, the actual demon King Zøg has mistaken for a cat this whole time, takes over Bean’s body and pranks the churchman come to expel him. It’s good stuff.

The episode ends with Bean saving Luci from being killed by Big Joe the exorcist, with an assist from Elfo, who as it turns out is OCD. I can’t wait to explore that angle in the next episode!
