WiC Binges: Disenchantment (Netflix)
Episode 4: “Castle Party Massacre”
The supporting cast of Disenchantment shine in episode 4, “Castle Party Massacre,” as King Zøg visits a spa to recover from drinking contaminated water.
Bean’s been having trouble finding a guy who isn’t afraid of her father, so when he and the rest of the family go away for the weekend, Luci talks her into inviting the entire city to a huge party. Elfo’s still smitten by Bean, so Luci — seeing an opportunity to have some fun — talks him into working up enough courage to tell the princess how he truly feels about her. Seriously, Luci just keeps getting better and better each episode.
Prime Minister Odval is left in charge, in the King’s absence, and he and Sorcerio the wizard decide to go full Tom Cruise and have an Eyes Wide Shut party. You never go full Tom Cruise, guys. Anyway, the pair has some really great moments in episode 4, especially when Elfo interrupts their sex party. “Come back later with an open mind…and your sassy friend, the talking cat,” Socerio tells him.
The episode takes a delightful turn when Vikings crash Bean’s party to have some fun, and they eventually decide that killing almost everyone and taking over the castle when they learn Elfo’s blood holds the secret to immortality, is a better notion than teaching everyone their sick dance moves. Bean hatches a plan to remove the barbarians from power before her father returns from the spa, and does so, just in time for him to walk into the throne room.
This was another fun episode. It really seems like the series has found its footing after a series premiere that almost had me turning the whole thing off.
On to the next episode!
