WiC Binges: Disenchantment (Netflix)
Episode 6: “Swamp and Circumstance”
Disenchantment slows down a bit in episode 6, “Swamp and Circumstance,” as Bean gets in trouble again, and her father, King Zøg decides a bit of responsibility will help her act more mature, and appoints her the ambassador to Dankmire, the swamp home of Bean’s stepmother, Queen Oona. Dankmire and Dreamland have an uneasy alliance held together by the marriage of King Zøg and Queen Oona, so of course, it makes sense to send a drunken and rebellious teenager as a representative of the kingdom.
About the only funny stuff in this episode came from Bean’s constant penchant for getting loaded and screwing up on an epic scale. At one point, Luci pours his alcoholic drinks into Bean’s soda, and she gets wasted and shows up at a very important dinner with the Dankmirian royals wearing one of their ceremonial robes backward.
During the main course, Bean decides to climb up on the dinner table and act like a bat, before hanging from the chandelier as her robe slipped down over her head, giving everyone in attendance a free peep show. Dankmire sees her shenanigans as an affront and declares war on Dreamland again.
Eventually, Bean sobers up enough to save the day, but not enough to save the episode. All in all, “Swamp and Circumstance” was a big miss for the show. Hopefully, the final four episodes will return to the hilarity of episodes 2-5.
