Episode 7: “Love’s Tender Rampage”

“Love’s Tender Rampage” was a return to the fun and lightheartedness of Disenchantment. The episode opens with Bean, Elfo and Luci getting loaded in a bar. Later, they drunkenly pass out in the street and end up in a plague cart headed for a burning pit where Elfo confesses his love for Bean. I guess the prospect of death really emboldened the little guy.

Bean says she doesn’t want to die without knowing true bliss, which, as it happens, turns out to be a hallucinogenic drug she’s been wanting to try out for a while. At the drug den, Elfo once again confesses his love for Bean, and when she puts him in the friend zone, Elfo tells her and Luci he was just kidding because he already has a girlfriend.

Elfo tells a huge lie about his “girlfriend” describing a giant with one eye and red hair. Bean decides to send her knights in search of the woman, and return with a giant perfectly fitting that description. Only problem is…she has no idea who Elfo is.

The episode was fun and laced with a plethora of double entendres, which were hilariously spot on when talking about an elf and a giant making love. It also lightly skirted topics of body shaming and bigotry, which you wouldn’t expect in an animated comedy set in a magical fantasy realm.
