Episode 8: “The Limits of Immortality”
It turns out that King Zøg isn’t the only one after Elfo’s life-giving blood, as Big Joe the exorcist returns to snatch him up and seek a magical pendant that will give its bearer the gift of immortality. Bean and Luci go on a quest to the lost city of Cremorrah to find him, but might as well have just sat around and done nothing because this episode was boring.
There were some fun moments her, like the laughing horse and the giant magical griffin who was able to squeeze out an egg every 20 minutes or so, but ultimately, “The Limits of Immortality” felt too much like filler that Matt Groening was forced to create just to get season one of Disenchantment to 10 episodes.
We did learn a little more about the mysterious couple watching Bean and company through their magical firevision. The Enchantress and Cloyd are their names, and they want to bring ruin to Dreamland and are planning on using Bean’s drunken escapades as a method of bringing that to fruition.
We’re now eight episodes into this inaugural season of Disenchantment, and three of them have missed the mark. Let’s hope the final two are much, much better.
