Netflix reportedly “very happy” with its Witcher show
These days, every network is looking for their own?Game of Thrones, a splashy fantasy show with a big production budget that can unite audiences behind a gripping story. Netflix is throwing its hat into the ring with a glossy adaptation of?Andrzej Sapkowski’s?Witcher?novels, most famous as the source material for CD Projekt Red’s Witcher?videogames. The Netflix show will be sticking to the books, with Henry Cavill — Superman in the DC Extended Universe movies — in the lead role.
This early, there’s no way to tell if Netflix’s?Witcher?show will develop a following on par with?Game of Thrones, but according to KC Walsh, the editor at Geeks WorldWide and a reliable source of DCEU-related info, the streaming giant is “very happy” with what it’s seen so far, and may even be ready to order multiple seasons before the first one drops sometime this year.
As Walsh points out, the DC angle on this is that if?The Witcher?goes on for a while, Cavill won’t have as much time to play Superman, yet more evidence that he’s well and truly done with that role. But with movies like?Man of Steel and?Justice League?not making the waves Warner Bros. wanted them to, his talents are probably best used on Netflix anyway.
We don’t know exactly when Netflix’s?Witcher?show will land, although showrunner?Lauren S. Hissrich has been gleefully documenting the behind-the-scenes process on Twitter, so that’s a good place to watch for clues.
