How many seasons will The Mandalorian run?

Pedro Pascal isn’t sure how many seasons The Mandalorian is going to run, but he’s sure they’ll all be of a high quality. We have some ideas, though.

The Mandalorian?wrapped up its second season a couple weeks back, capping off another round of high-flying, pulse-pounding episodes that left fans very pleased.

That said, we’re all wondering where the show goes from here, since the season finale ended with (last chance to avoid SPOILERS) Baby Yoda leaving with Luke Skywalker to learn how to control his powers, parting ways with Mando in an emotional scene that has us tearing up just thinking about it.

This brings an end to the original purpose of the show: Mando set out to find someone who could properly take care of Baby Yoda, and he did. Where does the series go from here, and for how much longer?

Speaking to?Entertainment Tonight, star Pedro Pascal admitted that he didn’t know. “I have no idea. I have no idea, because, I think that quality is always going to override quantity, so as long as it’s staying at this incredible standard, which it is at, it’s more a matter of that than anything else. You know what I mean?”

I think I do. It’s true that? The Mandalorian?has maintained a high standard of quality over its first two seasons, although if history is any guide, that can get harder as a show advances into middle and finally old age. As for what happens next, Mando?did?tell Baby Yoda (we should probably be calling him Grogu by now but old habits die hard) that they would meet again, and thank goodness, because it’s hard to picture the show without him. Let’s be honest: the series is named after the Mandalorian, but Baby Yoda is the star.

That said, I can see Mando having solo adventures for a bit. The finale ended with him taking the Darksaber from Moff Gideon, which we learn technically makes him the leader of the Mandalorian people, or at least gives him a claim. That puts him at odds with?Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), who wants that title for herself. Perhaps season 3 will find them traveling to Mandalore and sorting that out.

However long? The Mandalorian?lasts, we know that it’s going to intersect with two other?Star Wars?shows on the way: one about ex-Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and one called?Rangers of the New Republic. We don’t yet know if the shows will be so interconnected that you need to watch all three to know what’s going on, or whether each can stand on their own. (We can see Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was name dropped earlier this season, being a big enough villain to tie all of them together). In any case,?The Mandalorian?will last at least as many seasons as Dave Filoni and his team need to wrap up whatever joint story arc they have planned.

That might be as few as one or two more seasons. That would make?Mandalorian?a short-running show, but still one that got to do everything it wanted. If we’re going for a long show, 6-8 seasons seems to be the sweet spot. Beyond that, you get into?Walking Dead?or?Supernatural?territory, which last 11 and 15 seasons respectively. I think I’d prefer?Mandalorian?bow out before that.

And it can afford to, because Disney has several other?Star Wars?shows ready to replace it in the hearts and minds of fans. That’s the real genius of Disney’s plan: whether? The Mandalorian?wears out its welcome or not, there will always be something else to watch in that galaxy far, far away.
