Is The Old Guard 2 coming to Netflix in 2021?
In July 2020, Netflix premiered one of its best original action movies to date:?The Old Guard. The movie was adapted from the comic book series of the same name. And it’s clear by the reception from the fans that they want more.
And why shouldn’t they? The action-packed movie starred Charlize Theron as the leader of a group of?lethal mercenaries who all have a strange ability: the gift (or curse, depending on how you look at it) of immortality.
Because of this, the group has been in action for many, many years on Earth. Though they soon find themselves under threat as their secret ability is discovered by someone who wants to take advantage of it.
Thankfully, a sequel to?The Old Guard?was greenlit by Netflix in January 2021. But unfortunately that means The Old Guard 2?won’t be coming to Netflix in 2021. But there is some information that can help us figure out when the movie might hit the streaming platform.
The Old Guard 2 release date
Just this August, it was announced that the director of the original movie,?Gina Prince-Bythewood, would be replaced. Victoria Mahoney, who’s worked on?The Morning Show,?Lovecraft Country, and even as a second unit director for?Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, will be taking over.
With a director in place, production should be cleared to commence. According to Digital Spy, Theron herself said that the script was complete as of this past June. They expect filming to begin in the first quarter of 2022.
This more than likely means The Old Guard 2?won’t come out until 2023. If they want another summer smash, look for it in July 2023. But the winter holidays are also a good time to put out exciting movies, as most people have the extra time to spare for movie-watching.
