1899 on Netflix

1899

1899, a new show from?Dark?creators?Baran bo Odar?and?Jantje Friese, came out on Netflix in November and immediately captured people’s attention with its grim mood, period detail, and mind-bending mysteries. This is a foreboding show that takes twists you don’t see coming. Fans didn’t want it to end…but will it?

The first season finale of?1899?sets it up for a follow-up season, but it’s hard to know if the show has been popular enough to justify the expense.?1899?is a great-looking show with an expansive cast; it couldn’t have been cheap to make, and Netflix will take that into account when asking for more.

Netflix has a history of cancelling shows and upsetting fans; just this year, it’s cancelled?Warrior Nun,?Archive 81,?Raising Dion,?First Kill,?Resident Evil,?Fate: The Winx Saga?and? The Midnight Club, among others.?1899?is good enough to get a second season, and it’s made by producers with a history of success. We just hope that’s enough to get it over the finish line.

Wednesday

This is a weird one.?Wednesday, an update of?The Addams Family?focusing on the titular Addams daughter, was a record-breaking success for Netflix pretty much right out of the gate. People are gobbling this show up, so surely it’ll get a second, right?

…right?

I don’t think the show is in much danger, but the fact that Netflix hasn’t officially renewed it for season 2 is worrying people, especially with the streamer’s history of cancelling shows left and right.?Star Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Wednesday?s ooky-spooky mother Morticia, simply told?E! News?that,??We have no idea? if there’s a season 2 on the way. Netflix executive Peter Friedlander only said that he was ?optimistic? about the show?s future when talking with?Variety, but didn’t give any specifics.

I think the show will get a second season, but if Netflix were smart, they would get the ball rolling sooner rather than later. When there’s this much demand for new episodes, why wouldn’t you try and give the people what they want as soon as possible?
