5. The Walking Dead season 4

This is when the war against the governor of Woodbury really begins to get feisty. At this point, everyone is aware of just how power-hungry and tyrannical Philip Blake is, and how far he’ll go to get what he wants. Without Lori, Rick has to put his trust in the rest of the group to look after and care for Judith while he fights.

This season marks the end of the “prison era,” and sees the group back out on the road. As a steadfast lover of the seasons in the prison, I didn’t want to see it come to an end. But the final battle against the governor in “Too Far Gone,” gave me everything I wanted and more. The governor whispering ‘liar’ to Rick before brutally killing Hershel still gives me chills.

Season 4 was also the season we met some of the most notable characters in the entire series. Most notably, we’re introduced to Abraham’s group, which included badass Rosita and the lovable coward Eugene.

This season features one of the most heartbreaking episodes of all time, “The Grove,” in which Carol is forced to making a devastating choice.

4. The Walking Dead season 11

Like season 10, the final season of the show was extended from the usual 16 episodes to 24. Those extra episodes allowed the producers to pack in a whole lot of extra stories and helped wrap up the show without the need to rush.

The Commonwealth storyline breathed some fresh air into the franchise. It was interesting to see a super-advanced community. It had its fair share of good villains too. There was Sebastian, the spoiled son of Commonwealth leader Pamela Milton; Lance, her slimy right-hand man; and Pamela herself.

Looking at the first half of the season, I was a little disappointed by the Reapers. At first, they looked like amazing villains. Led by Pope, they were highly tactical and immensely powerful… and pretty stupid, it turns out. After being built up as huge villains, their reign of terror didn’t last long at all. Instead, it turned into a strange love story between Daryl and Leah, which also didn’t last very long.

I’ll forgive the Reaper arc because I really enjoyed the Commonwealth as well as the variant walkers. To end such a long-running show in a way that wasn’t a total disaster is a win in my mind.
