Game of Thrones: 5 Characters the Aegon the Conqueror prequel must get right
4. Harren Hoare
Prior to the conquest, Harren was the leader of House Hoare, the House that ruled over the Iron Islands. At one point, House Hoare’s dominion reached beyond the Islands into the Riverlands all the way to what would become King’s Landing. But Harren didn’t have a proper seat to call his own. So Harren ordered the construction of a grand castle that took 40 years to complete and thousands died to build: the monstrous Harrenhal.
Soon after Harrenhal was built, Aegon and his sisters landed at the mouth of the Blackwater Rush and Aegon himself led men into Harren’s kingdom. After exchanging victories in the Battle of the Reeds and the Wailing Willows, Aegon’s dragon Balerion killed two of Harren’s sons while they tried to cross the Gods Eye. Due to Harren’s tyrannical rule, many river lords rose up to join Aegon and oppose Harren, including Edmyn Tully.
Aegon made a proposal to Harren while he was holed up in his supposedly impenetrable castle, offering to let him keep his lands and rule over the Riverlands as Aegon’s vassal. After Harren refused, Aegon took Balerion into the sky and proceeded to burn Harren and his remaining sons alive in their castle. Edmyn Tully was raised as the new Lord Paramount of the Trident and the Ironborn chose Vickon Greyjoy to rule the Iron Islands.
Although his role will be small, Harren is one of Aegon’s first major challenges in the Conquest. He should have a cruel vibe similar to the Mad King or an older Joffrey Baratheon.
